Pisco Sour

We had our first Pisco Sour on our trip to Peru in April 2019. It’s made with an alcohol called Pisco, lime juice, simple syrup and an egg white (which gives it the frothy top). Pisco is made by fermenting grape juice into a high-proof spirit. In places like Lima, you can take a Pisco Sour tour through downtown and learn more about the origins of this drink.

Chianti in Tuscany

We visited Florence during a trip to Italy with our Mom’s in Spring of 2016 and were able to take a day trip to Tuscany. We had such a blast learning about and trying the different types of Chianti. On a second trip to Florence, I was able to visit Torciano winery for a work as well, which was a highlight. Tuscany is truly a dream that keeps calling us back!

Gin in Bath

One of the best cocktails I’ve had to date was enjoyed at The Canary Gin Bar in Bath, England. They make their gin using water from the Roman baths – but trust me, it’s much better than it sounds. It’s the perfect way to end a busy day sightseeing.

Whiskey in Killarney

During a date night on our Ireland road trip in August 2019, we participated in a Whiskey & Chocolate tasting in Killarney. It was here we tried Redbreast 12 year whiskey. Albeit expensive, it lived up to its hype. I’m not a huge whiskey drinker, but even this was something I could get behind.

Afternoon tea in London

I have one of the fondest memories of my first Afternoon Tea. My mom and I went on a girls trip to London, and got caught in a freak snowstorm. While it was dreary and cold outside, we sat in the coziest room for hours enjoying our goodies and endless tea. When traveling to England, afternoon tea is a must do tradition. We’ve forever been trying to catch the high of our first afternoon tea but it’s hard to compare to the experience we had in London!

Trappist Beer in Brussels

We participated in a beer tour one evening while visiting Brussels and learned so much in that one night than we had known to date. We both tried a trappist beer for the first time and discovered that they are brewed by monks and there are only 7 trappist breweries in the world! Quite a unique experience. Belgium is the place for beer lovers.

Glühwein in Munich

Glühwein is mulled wine, traditionally served at Christmas markets throughout Germany and other parts of Central Europe. It’s most commonly made with cinnamon, clove, oranges and sugar – but has plenty of variations on the classic. It’s the perfect way to warm up on chilly winter afternoon. (Who knows, after a few drinks – you might choose to start a mug collection like we did on on our first trip to Germany in December 2015!)

Rebujito in Sevilla

Rebujito is a drink that is very close to our hearts because it represents a city and celebration we love. It’s made with Sherry wine – native to Southern Spain and mixed with 7-Up or other lemon-lime soda. While this may sound strange at first, it’s actually quite refreshing on a hot day. Rebujito is typically drank at La Feria de Abril in Sevilla. You order a large pitcher (jarra) and are given small sherry glasses to pour it into and share with friends.

Mint tea in the Sahara

While camping in the Sahara desert at a Berber camp, there was a continuous flow of mint tea. We were there in February, and while warm during the day, the desert gets extremely cold at night. We woke up to catch the sunrise and this warm tea was the perfect thing to get us going. Our trip was particularly special because we went with Mark’s older brother, Mike. We saw thousands of stars across the sky – it was unlike anything we had experienced before.

Champagne in Paris

After moving to Spain in 2015, the first trip Mark and I took together was to Paris. It was right after the Paris attacks in November, and we were hesitant to go but ultimately decided the city would be the safest it’s ever been. While we originally promised our parents we wouldn’t go out at night – after landing late on Friday evening, we couldn’t resist grabbing a bottle of champagne and heading straight to see the Eiffel Tower. (Sorry Mom & Dad). It was incredibly special to see it lit up in the colors of France’s flag and we had most of the place to ourself!

Feuerzangenbowle in Cologne

We saw one of these flaming drinks for the first time on a trip to Cologne to visit the Christmas markets. Of course we had to try it, it’s on fire afterall! The sugar is drenched in alcohol and set aflame. It melts into the glühwein as it burns out and adds a sweet kick to the mulled wine.

Guiness in Dublin

I know that everyone says it, but a Guinness really does taste better in Ireland. On our road trip in August 2019 with Mark’s parents, many beers were enjoyed in pubs across the country. My favorite pub is O’Connell’s Bar in Galway and I always dream about the day I make it back there for another Guinness!

Butter Beer at Harry Potter Studios

Alright, this may be a bit silly but it was one of my favorite experiences on my trip to London with my Mom. Both of us are huge Harry Potter fans so we spent the day visiting the Harry Potter Studio Tour. I enjoyed a nice butterbeer partway through the experience, and my inner 11 year old self was jumping for joy.

Rosé in the French Riviera

There’s something about a glass of Rosé that screams summertime. In July of 2018, my work trip took me to the French Riviera. During some free time I purchased a bottle of Rosé and made my way to the beach. While I only dipped my toes in the water, it still felt like a scene out of a movie.

Mojito in Kotor

I absolutely love this picture and the day it reminds me of. It was almost 100 degrees in June 2017 when we took a day trip to Kotor, Montenegro from Dubrovnik. We attempted to hike up a mountain for a view of the Bay, but barely made it a fourth of the way up. We also spent a lot of time exploring downtown, trying to take in all the sights we had planned to see. Finally, sunburnt and sweaty, we sat down at a bar that had fans outside and ordered a mojito. You can feel how tired and hot we were by looking at Mark’s face in this photo – which is the reason I love it!

Prosecco in Florence

Like I mentioned earlier, our trip to Florence with our Mom’s was one for the books. Arguably one of my favorite views in the world is from Piazzale Michelangelo. We enjoyed a cold bottle of Prosecco overlooking the city on one of our last days there. It was magical.

Coca Tea in Cusco

With Cusco being 11,000 feet above sea level, many visitors experience altitude sickness. One local remedy for this is to drink coca tea! While we both were taking altitude sickness medicine, we cannot say for certain the tea helps. However, it is quite nice on a cold evening.

Sherry Wine in Jerez

Sherry wine is a fortified wine made in Southern, Spain. We visited Jerez twice during our time living in Sevilla and on each trip enjoyed this sweet drink. If you remember before, Rebujito for Feria is made from this type of wine. The most popular is called Manzanilla.
